1. Let It Go

Demi Lovato’s single “Let It Go” is performed by Idina Menzel in Disney’s most recent princess film “Frozen.” The song has been nominated for Best Original Song, and it’s clear as to why. I consider this one of the great Disney songs since 2000 because of its unique nature as Elsa (Menzel) sings about letting go of the world of isolation she’s lived in her whole life and accepting the freedom that now comes with not hiding who she is. It’s inspiring, empowering, and memorable!

2. When Will My Life Begin?

This catchy song from Disney’s “Tangled” is sung by Rapunzel (Mandy Moore), who has spent her entire life locked inside a tower. I love this song because she sings about all the things she does every day inside. I have to laugh because she lists a bunch of chores that she begins at 7:00AM, “and then it’s like 7:15.” Time passes so slowly for this princess who needs to fill her days with pottery, candle making, and papier-mâché. If you’re looking for a laugh, check out this song! It’s both brilliant and hilarious.

3. Almost There

“People down here think I’m crazy, but I don’t care,” Tiana sings in “Almost There” from Disney’s "The Princess and the Frog,” about how she’s almost there achieving her dream. She’s off to a strong start and this song gives her the confidence to keep up the good work as it instills her with determination. She’s worked so hard to get to this point and she won’t give up until she gets it. I find this song motivational and powerful.

4. Do You Want to Build a Snowman?

I love this song so much! It’s from Disney’s “Frozen” and to me, it captures the spirit of childhood innocence. In this classic, Anna (Kristen Bell) asks her sister Elsa (Menzel) to come out of her room and build a snowman. She’s looking for a playmate and even though her sister turns her down, she goes back to ask again. I can remember as a kid wanting my sister to play with me and when she didn’t, I was always disappointed we couldn’t. I believe Disney did a phenomenal job with this song, making it relatable and emotional.

5. Touch the Sky

“Brave” was quite different from other Disney movies as it was the first one between a mother and her daughter. What’s more, the song shows its Scottish roots through its rhythm and Merida’s (Kelly Macdonald) accent. “I will fly, chase the wind, and touch the sky.” This song encourages ambition. It’s definitely one to check out.

6. We Belong Together

This upbeat song peps up Disney’s heart-wrenching “Toy Story 3” that came out in 2010. The lyrics address, as the title suggests, that “we belong together.” This song about friendship makes me want to cry as the singer says that “the day I met you was the luckiest day of my life.” Talk about true friendship right there!

7. Down to Earth

Nominated for the Best Original Song, “Down to Earth” from Disney’s “Wall-E” is incredible! It’s got a heavy emphasis on the guitar, which makes it a good piece if you want to play it and you happen to play the guitar. The song talks about returning to a baseline from being up and around. “We’re coming down to the ground, there’s no better place to be.” It’s unlike the other Disney songs since 2000 but I admire it for its uniqueness.

I hope these songs have encouraged you to update your iPod! Which of these do you like? Are there any other Disney songs since 2000 that you love?
