1. Burn by Ellie Goulding
Indie-pop singer Ellie Goulding certainly took music by its reins in this hit single from her reissued album "Halcyon Days", making this one of the most addictive pop songs of the summer. The fact that it was released on my birthday (July 5th) made it all the more pleasant to hear. I love hearing the power behind this English beauty's breathy tone and impressive vocal range.
2. Brave by Sara Bareilles
Sara Bareilles has one of the loveliest voices in the music industry today, making her single from her fourth album "The Blessed Unrest" all the more beautiful. Co-written with Jack Antonoff (the extremely talented guitarist for the band Fun.) and inspired by a close friend who was conflicted about coming out, she speaks about the bravery needed to accept yourself for who you really are.

3. Dark Horse by Katy Perry
Released as part of a Pepsi Co. promotion stint for fans, I firmly believe that "Dark Horse" is one of Ms. Katy Perry's finer tunes. Featuring rapper Juicy J, I can't help but feel mesmerized as she croons about the consequences of falling for her over a highly infectious beat. In addition to "Roar", this promotional single paints a clear and positive picture of what her album "Prism" has to offer.
4. Slow down by Selena Gomez
Because of this song, I literally scream "breathe me in, breathe me out" regardless of where I am or who I am with. This should tell you just how catchy this tune by Selena Gomez is (or how weird I am). I love the electropop feel that she incorporated into her album "Stars Dance".
5. Applause by Lady Gaga
Whether you are a fan of Lady Gaga or not, you have to admit that the chorus from her single "Applause" is quite addictive! I became a bigger fan of the song with every play; premiering since the end of August, I still can't get the refrain out of my head! Little monsters, I'm sure Mother Monster made you proud.

6. Wrecking Ball by Miley Cyrus
While I try not to weigh in on anything involving the "Miley Cyrus" debate, I am not ashamed to admit that I have fallen head over heels for the song "Wrecking Ball". Putting aside any pre-existing bias regarding her character, I feel that the message behind this song is extremely heart-wrenching and moving. I'm sure that everyone has been in this "in between" position of wanting someone so bad that you try to break through his or her walls, inadvertently losing yourself in the process; I definitely found myself relating to the heartfelt words.
7. I Love It (Cobra Starship Remix) by Icona Pop
As if I didn't already love this song featuring Charli XCX, one of my favorite bands decided to further enhance it. Cobra Starship's remix of "I Love It" by Icona Pop makes me want to dance all over my dining room table. Once you listen to both the original version and remix, you will find it hard to disagree!
With the amount of pop songs that were hit singles this year alone, the options for your playlists are endless; there are way too many hits by different artists (such as Britney Spears, Marina & the Diamonds and Christina Aguilera) that I have been obsessed with for me to mention in a single list. I was recently introduced to singer Lorde and must say that I am quite impressed! What pop songs are currently topping your "most played" lists on iTunes? What other genres have you found yourself listening to?
