There are so many cool new indie bands you should add to your playlist. The amazing thing about music is that there is ALWAYS a new band to obsess over! I'm constantly clicking through random videos on YouTube and always stumble across new discoveries. Here are some new indie bands you should be listening to:
Young Rising Sons' "High" was featured on a promo for FOX's "Red Band Society" and I fell in absolute love with the song! They're such a cool band and are based in New Jersey. You can catch them on tour currently with The 1975. Impressive, huh? They're just one of the awesome new indie bands you should be listening to!
Zella Day is my new favorite artist. Her song "Hypnotic" was iTunes' free single of the week and after downloading it, I couldn't remember how I lived without it. It's SO good! Naturally, I had to go on iTunes and download the rest of her stuff as well. She was actually part of CMJ this year but I, unfortunately, didn't get the chance to see her perform!
False Puppet is a music discovery I made just a few weeks ago and I'm so happy that I did! They have some pretty amazing songs and their good looks don't hurt either. LOL!
I've heard a few songs from Portugal. The Man but I just recently become a serious fan. His music is so good!
If you're from London, you've probably already heard of Years & Years but the band is still flying under the radar here in the U.S. I actually discovered their music when I heard a snippet of one of their songs in a popular Vine video. After that, I looked them up, listened to all their songs, and fell in love! I can't wait until they make the crossover to the U.S. music market.
I actually discovered this band very randomly on YouTube but I'm so glad that I did. "I Found" was the first song of theirs that I listened to and I was instantly hooked. The lead singer's voice is undeniably repeat-worthy!
Lonely boy isn't so lonely anymore! Okay, no more Gossip Girl references, I promise. LOL! Anyways, Penn Badgley's band MOTHXR is phenomenal. I've seen them perform live three times now and was just as blown away as the first time. Penn's got such a strong and sultry voice. The band is pretty awesome too so you should definitely check them out!
I think Alt-J is definitely more well-known now than they were a few years ago but they're still worthy of a spot on this list. Their eclectic sound is mesmerizing and watching them perform live is something you just have to add to your concert bucket-list. That's a thing, right?
This is the song that made me fall in love with Daughter. Their music is so raw and genuine!
I hadn't heard of BØRNS until I watched him in a CMJ show in New York City last month and WOW, I was blown away. He's got such star power and his voice - well, it speaks for itself. I'm obsessed with "10,000 Emerald Pools" and have had it on replay for days. I think you'll feel the same way once you listen to it!
In case you didn't already hear, Pink (Alecia Moore) and City of Colour's Dallas Green teamed up for a little side project. The duo released their album, Rose Ave., and everything about it is just perfect. Alecia recently opened up to EW about her singing as Alecia and not Pink. "I know when I’m making a Pink record, it’s three years—the next three years of my life. That’s great. That’s wonderful. This is not that. This is just singing, ’cause I love to." I'm sure you'll be blown away when you hear You+Me's music!
Well, there you have it. These are just some of the indie bands I'm currently obsessing over! Had you heard of these artists before? What are some other great indie bands to listen to?
