When it comes to romantic first dance songs, there are so many beautiful options to choose from that it can be hard to narrow things down. But while there are of course a lot of varied opinions about which songs are the best, these seven, from Etta James’ iconic “At Last” to Rascal Flatts’ heartfelt “Bless the Broken Road,” top my own list. Check them out, and feel free to share your own favorite romantic first dance songs, too.

Widely considered one of the all-around best romantic first dance songs, “At Last” by Etta James is a beloved classic all of your guests will immediately recognize. Even the Obamas chose this beautiful song for their first dance at one of DC’s inaugural balls back in 2009, further proving its popularity as a timeless choice for weddings, anniversaries and more.

“The Way You Look Tonight” was the theme at my high school prom more than 10 years ago, and ever since then, I’ve loved hearing this Frank Sinatra classic played as a first dance song at weddings. Already have another song in mind for your first dance? This song is also a popular choice for father-daughter dances.

Whether you and your sweetie are country music fans or just looking for a romantic first dance song that tells a beautiful story, Rascal Flatt’s “Bless the Broken Road” is a wonderful choice. Even though I’ve heard this song countless times, I still can’t help but get teary-eyed whenever it’s played at weddings!

Since Casablanca has long been my favorite movie, it’s no surprise that the film’s title song “As Time Goes By” is one of my top picks for a romantic first dance. My sister-in-law recently danced to it with her husband at their wedding, making for a truly special moment the two of them will never forget.

Although my husband and I didn’t end up picking “Over the Rainbow” by Iz as our actual first dance song, we did select it for our wedding video montage and as the entrance song for my parents at the beginning of the reception. With timeless lyrics and a gorgeous melody, I think it’s the perfect choice for everything from a couple’s first dance to a father-daughter or mother-son dance.

Just like “Bless the Broken Road,” Elvis Presley’s “Can’t Help Falling in Love” strikes me as being a great first dance song thanks to its heartfelt lyrics and story. The slow tune is also just right for a couple looking to share a romantic moment on the dance floor while their photographer captures some amazing photos.

Finally, I can’t forget the song my husband and I actually did dance to at our own wedding three years ago. While it’s a bit more upbeat than some of the other songs previously mentioned, Frank Sinatra’s “Fly Me to the Moon” still evokes an undeniably romantic vibe. Its foxtrot melody is also ideal for couples hoping to wow guests with a choreographed dance routine.
Of course, these are just a few of my own top picks for romantic first dance songs, and there are certainly many more I could have included. What are some of your own favorites? Will you be dancing to one of the songs listed here?
