WKDU, Philadelphia

Drexel's station is a fine choice for someone appreciating the unpredictable variety in a radio channel. It definitely seems a bit schizophrenic at times, but the variety will make you fall in love with it. You will enjoy metal and hardcore punk one hour, with funk and jazz the next. Be sure to check their website regularly to get to know of its impressive roster of in-studio interviews, including bands like the Menzingers and the Bouncing Souls.

WASU Boone

Are you a diehard fan of low-key indie rockers such as White Wives, Soft Swells, and Ween? Tune into WASU, one of the very best Appalachian State University radio stations where there's an exciting mix of under-the-radar bands. It's the variety they offer that helped them be the runners up in last year MTV's annual college radio rankings. Try it today, especially its weekly staples such as "The Health Corner".

WUTK, Tennessee:

Licensed to broadcast at 1000 watts, WUTK is an independent, student-run college radio station owned by the University of Tennessee. Once known as Album 90, WUTK was the first radio station in Knoxville to share music from bands such the Red Hot Chili Peppers, U2, Metallica, and the Black Crowes. Some of their popular shows include "Acoustic Café" and "Kill Ugly Radio".

WPRK, Florida

Enjoy the "best in basement radio" with some amazing selection of numbers by tuning into this radio station. You will even fall in love with their most-played list that usually veers in the direction of popular bands such as Beach House, Eels, Surfer Blood, Four Tet, and Animal Collective.

KPSU, Oregon

The radio station of Portland State University is a people's favorite since 1994. That amazing fan following is due to some of their popular weekly shows, such as "Live Friday", where the listeners can enjoy local bands playing 'live' in the studio. Yet another popular show you can catch on KPSU is 'Guitar Shop' – it's an acoustic show coming every Wednesday. Fans can interact with DJs on their user-friendly website – you can also use the website to download some of their podcasts or even place requests.

WICB, New York

What started in 1949 with only 10 Watts of power has now become something big with 100 Watts of power. It is without a doubt one of the finest college radio stations and entertains listeners from northern Pennsylvania to Lake Ontario. It caters to the music needs of more than 250,000 people, which makes 92 WICB one of the most-heard student-operated FM station in this part of the world.
