Thriller – Michael Jackson

On iTunes at: itunes.apple.com

If you didn’t know this already, Thriller by Michael Jackson is one of the greatest music videos inspired by movies that has ever been made. It was an homage to “Night of the Living Dead” and “West Side Story” and you could even say that it was the first music video to be a movie itself. I believe everyone knows and loves this amazing piece of art, which has always fascinated me even since I was a little girl.

2

Rush, Rush – Paula Abdul

On iTunes at: itunes.apple.com

It was totally a surprise for me to find out that this video that I love so much from Paula Abdul is inspired by a movie. Apparently Director Stefan Wurnitzer created this wonderful video being inspired by “Rebel Without a Cause”, the amazing film made by Nicolas Ray, and the movie that turned James Dean into an eternal icon. Even though the movie tried to portray the moral decay of 50’s youth in America, the video is very romantic and portrays the love between Paula Abdul and Keanu Reeves. Hmm, who knew?

3

Body Movin – the Beastie Boys

On iTunes at: itunes.apple.com

Maybe you didn’t know, but this very entertaining movie video by Beastie Boys was inspired by the 1968 Italian spy film called “Danger: Diabolik”. It’s a very entertaining parody from the Beastie Boys and it’s so much fun to watch! If you haven’t seen it yet, just press play and check it out! I’m absolutely sure you’re gonna love it or you’ll at least be entertained.

Everybody Hurts - REM

On iTunes at: itunes.apple.com

Apparently, this amazing masterpiece from REM, directed by Joseph Kahn, pays homage to another great work of art: Federico Fellini’s Italian “8 ½”, especially the opening dream sequence. This is one of my all-time favorite videos and the music in the song is very slow, simple and heartfelt. You can’t but love this wonderful music video! It basically tells the story of a couple of people stuck in a traffic jam and their thoughts are interpreted by words at the bottom of the screen. It very simple, but extremely effective!

5

Material Girl - Madonna

On iTunes at: itunes.apple.com

This very entertaining music video (and very catchy tune) was inspired by “Gentlemen Prefer Blondes”, a movie that was released in 1953 and featured Marilyn Monroe as the female lead actress. I really like this video and I used to be quite obsessed with the song too. If you haven’t heard it in a while, just press play and enjoy!

Famous Quotes

Love is like a friendship caught on fire. In the beginning a flame, very pretty, often hot and fierce, but still only light and flickering. As love grows older, our hearts mature and our love becomes as coals, deep-burning and unquenchable.

Kiss Me – Sixpence None the Richer

On iTunes at: itunes.apple.com

This incredibly beautiful and romantic video pays tribute to French filmmaker François Truffaut and to his movie “Jules et Jim”, a black and white movie that was released in 1962. In this video, they managed to recreate many of the classic scenes from the film, which presented the love triangle between two friends and an impulsive woman. I love this video and I absolutely adore the song and its wonderful lyrics!

7

Part of Me - Katy Perry

On iTunes at: itunes.apple.com

I had to include Katy Perry in his list because she is one of my favorite singers and I think she is such an inspiration for a lot of women nowadays. This wonderful video is inspired by G.I. Jane. Although there were people who said that this video was propaganda for the Marine Corps, I really don’t believe it and Katy Perry herself said that she chose the military plot because it really represented this song and she also said that "It's an affirmation of strength, so I wanted to go the strongest route I ever could." I love, love, love this video and I also love her movie!

So, there you go; these were 7 of the greatest music videos inspired by movies, music videos that I absolutely adore. Do you know any other music videos that have been inspired by a wonderful movie? Please tell us about them!
