By Vladlena

Classic dance moves are just that: classic and never forgotten! While they may seem very outdated to some of you, these are the dance moves that will always be welcomed as a form of self-expression, no matter how goofy they might appear. Plus these dance moves are lifesavers for those who are not naturally blessed with dancing skills. So let’s explore the art of dance through some of the most well known classic dance moves that have remained with us since the start.

1 The Twist

This is one of the classic dance moves that almost anyone can do, except of course for those with knee problems. All you have to do is twist your body from side to side! You can always add your own unique ‘twist’ to it, but all of that comes secondary. In addition, this has to be a great ab workout from all of the torso twisting!

Frequently asked questions

2 Macarena

You don’t see many people execute this move on the dance floor nowadays, but it is a universal dance that almost everyone knows about. Once you actually learn all of the hand placements and movements, it becomes a really easy move to use for your own laughter and enjoyment.

3 Moonwalk

Very few can do the moonwalk but it never fails to impress! It is one of the harder moves to learn but it is known and loved by almost everyone, and has been ever since Michael Jackson made it popular. The move basically consists of an illusion of a dancer being pulled backward while trying to move forward.

4 The Robot

The Robot is still a constant party favorite guaranteed to bring life to any party. However, don’t confuse it with similar dance moves, such as popping! This dance move tries to imitate a dancing robot or a mannequin. It is also another one of the dance moves that really took off when Michael Jackson used it in one of his performances.

5 Raise the Roof

Whether you are on the dance floor or chanting in celebration, this move is definitely appropriate! It doesn’t even require that much dancing skill. This move is all about pushing both hands up in the air as if you are performing a military press with the hands facing the ceiling.

6 The Sprinkler

The Sprinkler is a form of dance in which a person places one hand on the back of the neck and waves the other arm back and forth while spinning in a circle, much like a regular rotating garden sprinkler. It is one of the cornier dance moves but it is definitely making a comeback!

7 The Shimmy

The Shimmy is a dance move in which you hold your body still while moving the shoulders back and forth, so when the left shoulder comes back the right one goes forward. This move has been used on many different occasions and even became a staple move in Zumba fitness classes!

The art of dance has definitely evolved over the years, but some classic moves have remained part of our culture. While they may not be the most up to date moves, they are great for some of us who were unfortunate enough to be born with two left feet. What are some of your favorite classic dance moves?
