The White Stripes – "Fell in Love with a Girl" (2002)

Ever since I was a child, I have been a huge supporter of this band. In 2002, when I heard that The White Stripes were releasing a new single, I couldn't help but feel overwhelmed with feelings of gratitude and excitement. Seeing the video accompaniment caused me to become more enthused. It was pretty cool to see the constructed lego versions of Jack and Meg White 'move'. Critics either love or hate this eccentrically-animated video.

3

Modest Mouse – "Float on" (2004)

I remember spending days in awe of the overall concept behind this beautifully filmed video. In my opinion, using a pop-up-book animations to depict the band was both amusing and highly innovative. It also doesn't hurt that this happens to be one of my favorite songs of all time. The music video oddly compliments the energetic beat. It is no wonder that this song was named the 39th greatest song the 2000s in Rolling Stone magazine.

Panic! at the Disco – "I Write Sins Not Tragedies" (2006)

Panic! At The Disco's music video for their debut single is one of my favorites. Featuring circus members at a wedding and painted faces, director Shane Drake didn't hold back when coming up with the magnificent concept behind this performance. Because of this, I always find myself excited at the prospect of more videos from my favorite band appearing in the eccentric fashion of "I Write Sins Not Tragedies".

Coldplay – "Lovers in Japan" (2008)

Coldplay's music video for their soulful single “Lovers in Japan” struck a chord with me. Whether it's due to the emotions depicted on the faces of these genius musicians or their finely-tuned instruments, there's something about this video that I have always found very humbling and infectious. I was first introduced to this song when watching the premiere for its video and have not turned back since. This will one day be my wedding song; I will cherish this elegant music video for a lifetime.

Lady Gaga – "Bad Romance" (2009)

I didn't take a major interest in pop star Lady Gaga until I saw her showstopping performance at the 2009 VMAs. The release of this incredible music video certainly cemented it for me. The spot-on choreography is one of my favorite parts; I was thrilled when I was given the chance to re-enact the dance in a performance at my school!

R.E.M. - "Imitation of Life" (2011)

After reading about the lengths that the director went through in order to film this, R.E.M.'s “Imitation of Life” more than deserves to be a contender on this list of intriguing music video concepts. Did you know that this four minute video was actually shot in the length of twenty seconds? The coolest part about this is that only one camera was used to film it! This video is actually a series of close-ups of different angles in a single scene.

8

Bjork - "Mutual Core" (2012)

I am impressed with the way that the definitive detailing in this video enhances the overall listening and viewing experience! Bjork is known for her bold fashion sense and take-no-prisoner attitude when it comes to creativity. I think it is astounding how all of the bright colors, shapes and textures aid in adding dimension to the concept of the video.

9

Mumford & Sons - “Hopeless Wanderer” (2013)

Lastly, watching the recently released music video to this amazing song literally made me laugh out loud! Featuring an all star cast (Jason Sudeikis, Jason Bateman, Will Forte and Ed Helms), I almost did a double-take when I saw these guys dressed in Mumford's usual fashion. The hilarity that ensues did little to take away from the beautiful crescendos in the background, which makes me love this video even more.

Each video contains diverse elements that make them completely intriguing and hard to look away from. I've always had a thing for videos that feature elements that are ambiguous in nature. Are there any music videos that you are shocked by? What are some of your favorites?
