13 Infectious Songs by Britney Spears That Helped Define Her Career ...

I remember being a fan of pop music since the cusp of one particular singer's debut; as a child, I often found myself listening to hit songs by Britney Spears because of their infectious and energetic nature. I've always been amazed at how she was able to captivate a worldwide audience at the age of sixteen. Despite the many trials and tribulations that she faced during her career, she managed to prove to the world that she could come out on top. This truly admirable feat led me to composing this list of pop songs by Britney Spears that played a large role in defining her career as a singer.

1

"...Baby One More Time"

It only makes sense to start off with one of the most popular songs by Britney Spears. With its catchy chorus (accompanied by a cheeky music video), this was definitely a great way to induct Britney into the world of pop music. Can you believe that her debut sold over 20 million albums?

2

"(You Drive Me) Crazy"

I found myself falling for this song even more when it was featured on an episode of the popular TV series "Sabrina the Teenage Witch." With its melodious chorus and energetic beat, it's easy to see why "Crazy" is considered one of her biggest hits.

3

"Oops!...I Did It Again"

The title of this next song is certainly accurate. Britney Spears managed to capture her audience's attention again with the hit single "Oops!...I Did It Again." When I first heard this song, I immediately thought that she should be crowned the queen of addictive hooks as it never failed to get me out of my seat.

4

“Lucky”

While a bit sad when thought of in the context of her personal life, the lyrics of this song are extremely relatable. Here, the age-old motto revolving around being alone even when you are surrounded by people rings true.

5

"Stronger"

This is still one of my favorite tracks off of the "Oops!...I Did It Again" album. I love the empowering tones beneath the lyrics of this powerful tune. It's no surprise that this song made it onto many radio airplay charts.

Overprotected

Britney Spears' song "Overprotected" will always burn a musical hole in my iPod. This song has a great melody. Her self-titled album featured more hits, including “I'm Not a Girl, Not Yet a Woman” and The Neptunes produced track “Boys.”

7

"I'm a Slave 4 U"

This next track proved that Britney's career as a pop singer would only grow stronger. "I'm a Slave 4 U" became a monster hit with its amazing hook.

8

"Me against the Music"

This song is regularly featured on my playlist of most played hits. "Me Against the Music" is a collaboration between Ms. Spears and the legendary music icon Madonna. I find it interesting that the MTV VMA moment between Britney Spears and Madonna is still regarded as one of the most controversial moments on live television.

9

"Toxic"

The complementary music video for this sassy tune more than cemented her grown-up image. Dance enthusiasts will find it difficult to not dance to this marvelous track.

10

"Gimme More"

While this song was not well received by critics, it still managed to reach the third spot on the Hot 100 Billboard Charts in 2007. Although this was a trying year in Spears' personal life, this song marked her long-awaited comeback.

11

"if U Seek Amy"

I have to give credit where it's due; this is one of the most creative (and naughty) songs. I always sing this hit at the top of my lungs until I remember what the lyrics cheekily imply. Check out her album "Circus" for even more energetic songs to jam to!

12

"Hold It against Me"

This song off of her album "Femme Fatale" signified her return to commercial breakthroughs. I absolutely loved her foray into dubstep. Other songs such as "Til the World Ends" and "I Wanna Go" also aided in strengthening her image as a bonafide pop icon.

13

"Work B"

This final song has steadily become my favorite dance anthem. It makes me itch to jump onto my bed and really "work it out" (you must have seen that cliché coming). With the release of pop tunes such as these, I'm not worried about Britney's future at all.

I will be the first to say that I am delighted to see Ms. Spears back in the spotlight. Her innovative pop songs more than deserve to be featured at the top of every music chart. There are so many phenomenal numbers that I wanted to feature in this article but was not able to. What are some of your favorite hits by Britney Spears?
